a literate stag? J├Ągermeister?

one of the many fountains of Rome, this one left me very curious. It refers to Saint Eustace (S’ Eustachio), hence the antlers, but what about the books?

  1. If I’m not mistaken, the fountain is in the rione of Sant’Eustachio – hence the antlers – and on one of the walls of what was La Sapienza University – hence the books.

  2. Thank you Zerlina – I was aware of the S Eustachio connection as I have written, but didn’t know the Archivio del Stato building, where the fountain is situated on one of the outer walls, used to be a building of La Sapienza!
